Kathrine Switzer

Table of Contents

I'm so thrilled to release this week's podcast with the legendary Kathrine Switzer.

Here are the links to get it on iTunesStitcher, and Google Play.

We've all heard how, in 1967, Kathrine became the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a registered participant.

And we've all seen the iconic photo capturing her defiance and perseverance when the race director, Jock Semple, tried to tackle her off the course.

This is a moment and a photo that changed history…

But there was a lot that I learned in this podcast, like…

  • Why Kathrine decided to run the marathon in the first place
  • Why she ran her next marathon just 13 days later (this is crazy!)
  • Why she started her charity, 261 Fearless, and
  • What she's excited about for the future of women's (and men's) athletics.

(If you want to know her answer, you'll just have to listen. 😉)

My favorite part of the interview is when I asked her a question from my sister (on behalf of my niece): What she would tell a four-year-old girl who thinks that only boys can play sports?

When I started podcasting, if you had asked me to name the top five people I'd want to interview, Kathrine would be one of them.

I hope that you enjoy this podcast, and are as inspired by Kathrine as I am.

Again, here are the links to get it on iTunesStitcher, and Google Play.

Please come along for the walk or run with us this weekend. And please share it with someone special who you think it will inspire.

Big thanks to our partners at AfterShokz who make this podcast, and everything we do at Charity Miles possible!

If you're listening to this podcast while walking or running, I hope you're wearing their open-ear bone conduction headphones.

Not only do they enable you to listen to your podcasts and music safely, but since they don't go in your ear, they are the most comfortable headphones I've ever owned– and they never fall out!
