What an honor to share this interview with Brendan Cusick and Patrick Morrissey, two members of a four person team called Human Powered Potential.
This team did something extraordinary. They rode a boat from Monterey, California all the way to Kauai, Hawaii.
That's 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean as part of an event called the World's Toughest Row.
What makes this even more incredible is that Patrick is living with Parkinson's disease.
This wasn't just an athletic challenge. It was a mission to raise money and awareness for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, a cause, which all of you know is very near and dear to my heart.
They started with a goal of raising $1.2 million, and by the end they raised over $43 million.
In this episode, we'll talk about how the team came together, how they trained for 18 months, and how Pat made the courageous decision to go from a potential spokesperson for this event to a full crew member.
We'll also dive into what it's like to spend 41 days at sea battling storms, seasickness, rogue waves, and sleep deprivation, rowing two hours on, two hours off around the clock for almost a month and a half.
But most of all, we talk about purpose, the deep emotional bond that these men formed with each other, the community they built, and how the support they received from thousands of people all over the world, helped keep them going.
This is a story about resilience, teamwork, brotherhood, and the power of believing in something bigger than yourself.
I hope that it inspires you as much as it inspires me.
