Parker Roberson and his fraternity Phi Kappa Tau started a team in Charity Miles to raise funds and awareness for their favorite organizations. Their fraternities’ mission is to “Champion a lifelong commitment to brotherhood, learning, ethical leadership, and exemplary character.”
The Phi Kappa Tau colony at Appalachian State University is dedicated to improving the university community while also working to improve the lives of people internationally. Phi Kappa Tau believes in leading the effort to help those in need.
Their chapter is comprised of a wide variety of leaders and scholars. The President is the Student Brand Manager for Red Bull North America. Another brother, Lukas Warren, is a Student Ambassador for Appalachian State University. Lukas provides tours for the incoming students and acts as an intermediary between the Chancellor and the students.
The chapter is also made up of athletes and volunteers. Five brothers play on the club soccer team and one just became Captain (Tommy Labriola). Nine members volunteered this summer in Appalcore. A program that assists first-year students on move-in day. Each brother that participated accumulated just under 25 hours of service. Last but not least,t a brother, William Bayless led their Relay for Life Team. Last year they raised funds through the Walk for cancer research. They also won the best tailgate for the first home football game. They used the opportunity to bring awareness to ovarian cancer.
Most recently they adopted a street in downtown Boone, NC. As a group, they will maintain the street to preserve the beauty of the small town surrounding their university. In the near future, they will be volunteering at a blood drive hosted on campus, assisting students and employers at two career fairs, and hosting smaller events to raise money for the SeriousFun Children’s
Network.
They started using Charity Miles because they wanted to help people in places they could not reach. Brothers use
the app when walking around campus and working out. They plan to share their experience with other clubs and organizations at AppState. In hopes to create a campus-wide movement. You can join their team PKTAppState.
