Jacquie is traveling the world and logging all of her movements with Charity Miles. So far she’s moved with purpose in Australia and New Zealand. Check out her story here, and don’t miss the pictures she took on the set of one of our favorite films.

I am going to Sydney for the Vivid light festival.  Sydney has many walking tours throughout the city I plan on attending. After my two weeks in Sydney, I will go to Auckland, NZ to see Hobbiton and hike in the mountains. After New Zealand, I will head to Halls Gap and Melbourne to camp and see the nightlife of Melbourne. Once these 24 days of exploring these two countries are complete, I head to Kauai, HI and backpack 5 days on the Na Pali Coast then off to Honolulu to hike some great trails and paddleboard in North Shore.

As soon as I got off the plane I started the app. Walking from gate to gate can be an easy way to add steps. From the airport, I checked into my hotel and walked to the Sydney Aquarium! Where I saw sharks, Rays, and Dugongs (sea cows). Did you know there are over 400 species of sharks and 182 are found in Australia?!
Tonight I will go back to Darling Harbor to experience the Vivid light festival.

Sunday, May 29th

Today, I went on a ferry ride through the harbor. It was very cold. I know it is Memorial Day back in the States, so I decided my charity would be the Wounded Warrior Project.  The first stop was Fort Denison, then to the HMAS Naval heritage center. I went back out to walk around Sydney Harbor to see the Vivid Festival! Which is a huge light festival in Sydney. Very cool.

Today I went to the blue mountains where I hiked to the bottom. They are called blue mountains because of the reflection the oils from the eucalyptus trees makes the mountains look blue. I set my charity miles to World Wildlife Foundation because  I was going to feather-dale wildlife park. I was able to touch a Koala and feed them! They are so soft. Kangaroos are just as soft!
It was a great day in Sydney, even better knowing that every step of this day helped WWF.

Wednesday, June 1st

– Auckland went to Hobbiton about two hours north of Auckland. This is the movie set for the Lord of the Rings, Shire. It was incredible. I had an ale at the Dragon Inn. After Hobbiton, I went to Te Puia which is the cultural center of New Zealand.

New Zealand is part of the Polynesian Circle thus it was a lot like the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii. I enjoyed a traditional meal they make from heated rocks in the ground. It was chicken, sweet potato, pumpkin, and corn. It was delicious.

I then traveled an hour south to the Glow Worm caves. They were great. Unfortunately no photos.

Thursday, June 2nd

Today I walked around Auckland and went to the War Museum to learn about New Zealand’s involvement in WW2. I went to the War Museum and walked to the highest building in the Southern Hemisphere, the Sky Tower. There I climbed 57 floors in steps! To get an amazing view of Auckland, NZ. I logged my miles for the Alzheimer’s Association.
