We wanted to reach out to you today because we need your help with a cause that is weighing heavily on our hearts and minds. By now I’m sure you have seen images of the devastating flooding across southern Louisiana. The flooding is reported to be the worst natural disaster in the United States since 2012’s Superstorm Sandy and area food banks were not immune to the devastation. Food insecurity was at already at an all-time high for the state of Louisiana with 1 in 6 families struggling to put food on the table, and the aftermath of the flooding was devastating.
Our charity partner Feeding America operates through several local food banks including the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The food bank suffered severe damage leaving their current facility inoperable and destroying approximately half a million pounds of food destined to help people already on the brink.
We have seen you come together to move in amazing ways, and we can only ask that join us as we partner with Humana to support the community of Baton Rouge following the devastating flooding. Humana is on-the-ground in the region supporting its local members, associates, and the community. Humana is also partnering with local nonprofit groups that are focused on rebuilding and revitalizing the entire community.
Join us and our sponsor Humana for the Carry the Baton for Baton Rouge Virtual 5k, by selecting Feeding America as your charity partner and walking, biking, or running the distance equal to or more than 5k from now until September 31. For each 5k (3.1 miles) up to 10,000 Humana will donate $1 to the local charity partners that are contributing to the Baton Rouge relief efforts.
