Sientra and partners come together to raise $50,000 for breast cancer patients

"It’s great having a tool like Charity Miles,” adds San. It was a “simple and easy way to include folks from outside our organization, and it allowed us to double our donations this year."

For Sientra, Breast Cancer Awareness Month every October is central to their charitable giving.

Sientra manufactures breast implantable devices for cosmetic or reconstruction procedures. Many of their implants serve people who are going through or have gone through a journey with breast cancer.

“We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community,” says San Ly, a member of the Sientra marketing team.

“We work alongside our surgeons to raise funds that will go back into breast cancer education, support services and resources.”

In 2020, Sientra used Charity Miles as part of their Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaigns for the first time. Through their One Step Closer campaign, Sientra employees walked, biked, or ran 25,000 miles for the charitable arm of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, which funds breast cancer research.

This year, their goal was to double that amount. And they did it — with the help of their community.

“We expanded our campaign this year, from One Step Closer to One Step Closer Together. It rallied not only us as a company, but the healthcare providers that we work with, the plastic surgeons that use our products to support breast cancer patients, as well as members of the community themselves, including breast cancer survivors and their loved ones,” says San.

Working together, Sientra and their partners and community members reached their goal of $50,000 before the month ended!

The donations will go to the Breasties for “patient education, patient resources, and support items that are outside of the products we provide, but are still part of the whole breast reconstruction journey,” says San.

Employees and partners appreciated having the chance to support breast cancer patients.

Employees love having an opportunity to feel not only a part of the company, but of a larger cause,” says San. Several of Sientra’s plastic surgeon partners wrote that the initiative was meaningful for them because “this is one more way they can support the patients that they serve day in and day out.”

“It’s great having a tool like Charity Miles,” adds San. It was a “simple and easy way to include folks from outside our organization, and it allowed us to double our donations this year.”

We’re proud to have supported Sientra and their partners in this incredible accomplishment. Congratulations to the whole team! #EveryMileMatters
